peek-a-boo

Hello Humpers, I hope things have been dandy for all of you and that this little update is a bit interesting at the least. It’s been a while since my last post and I’m just itching to roll this stuff up and put it in the air. Breaking away from the tech-elect trend over to HipHop for a quick beat, I want to give props to People Under The Stairs. I picked up their 7th album a couple months ago at a show and with no regrets. As with most of the duo’s material it was spot on in creating the signature laid back west coast vibe evoking visions of summer BBQs with all the B’s. Also catching my attention was Kenan Bell who has a single on NBA.2K10. He had a good energetic performance and brought a unique flow. The entire show seemed to host contrasting but complimentary stylez and it worked well in the small venue that strengthened the bond between artist and fan by offering opportunity for a one-on-one conversation. In short: high-5 to Thes One, Double K, Kenan, Grieves and all the players that night, keep on keeping it real. Go listen to their stuff and spread the word!… word?

Switching Back, heres some other stuff.

Retro Dream- hailing from Illinois ,retro dream hits the spot with uplifting instrumentals. An electro-fantasy dreamscape of sorts.

Jkale- from the green mtn state, a bit of VT steez in the mix. A heavy vibe and solid rhythm. The two new songs are on spot and Words From The Woods is very much worth the free DL.

Snubluck- from denver, another green and mountainy place, Sounds a lil disorganized but keeps flowin.

Love Is...

Alright these two tacks are a little more on the lovey/ lonely side which is kind of cool. I guess. Anyway, first we have Annie's Anthonio track which was remixed nicely by none other than Designer Drugs. Although more of a house beat, I find this song extremely addictive. The broken lyrics somehow add to the appeal and this is definitely one that I can't put down at the moment.

Annie - Anthonio (Designer Drugs Remix)

Computer Club has made an impact in the electronic scene over the past few years and this track should bring him right up to the top. The Wired All Wrong track Elevatin was the perfect candidate for a remix and Mike from Computer Club killed in on this one. This dude's got skill if you haven't noticed so go check out some more of his shit.

Fresh Tracks

I'm still hooked on the good riding music ordeal and I feel like some more of my future posts will be of this nature.

First up is a Skream remix of the Klaxons track, It's Not Over Yet. I honestly love Skream. Some people may feel differently about him but I just find his simplistic style so intriguing. His deep bass driven dubstep can have the potential to blow out your headphones, but at the same time put you in a relaxing mood. This guy has some serious skill and I need to get out to see him. If you like this track I suggest you do the same.

Klaxons - It's Not Over Yet (Skream Remix)

The Hey Champ remix of What You Need by Priors is another smooth roller. Not nearly as bassy as the above track, but this one resides on the funky side of the electronic scene. The song is definitely pretty mysterious sounding and I have been meaning to post it for some time now.

Gnar Shreds

Alright so we have taken a little break on the posting and have been enjoying our break from classes and such. Recently I have been doing a ton of snowboarding and there were a few songs that were just outstanding for ripping down the mountain or just jibbing off of little features. The Glitch Mob thrives off of low key grimy electronic music and although their remixes are slower, there is a lot going on in them.

The Glitch Mob did a remix of Matty G's West Coast Rocks. This is the first hip hop (ish) song that we have posted about on Humpstick but I have been hooked on it for the past few weeks. The Glitch Mob did a great job of fusing dirty electronic with hip hop and this song definitely puts me in the right mood.

Matty G - West Coast Rocks (The Glitch Mob Remix)

Next up is a song by STS9. A good friend of mine recently introduced me to the group and I was amazed to see how lively they are in concert. The Glitch Mob also did a remix of their song Beyond Right Now. Technical and low key. What else could you ask for when looking for a good chilling track?

Classixx Resurrection

Classixx is one of the most progressive duos that we have come across. Their reworks of popular songs are groundbreaking and they know how to add their own flair without killing the track.

Phoenix has made a huge impact with the blogs and have recently found themselves at the top of the music charts. Classixx took one of their most popular songs, Listomania, gave it a slower bpm, and a more electronic feel while keeping it very low key but upbeat at the same time. A nice track indeed.

Phoenix - Lisztomania (Classixx Remix)

I always thought Shiny Toy Guns were a cool band, especially when I saw them at Killington Mountain. These guys have some serious skill and have made a huge impact on the alternative rock scene. Classixx once again takes a great song, adds their electric vibe, and makes an instant banger.

Shiny Toy Guns - Starts With One (Classixx Remix)

This last song we have for you has once been posted in the Humpstick archives. (Although not too big at the moment) Anyway, we posted a shorter version that went along with a sweet old school skate video. However, we were not the nicest and did not give you a link to the song or an option to download it. (Hence this post) So here you go kids. Below you will find the classic Classixx track Cold Act Ill. We found an extended mix that was double the length of the previously posted video, so enjoy. Check these guys out and buy their shit because they are seriously legit.

<3 Happy Holidays and safe travels from the Humpstick Crew!

no order.

Alright here you go. This post is just about a few songs that I am feeling at the moment. Like the title says, there is no order here, no theme. Enjoy.

First up is a Bassnectar remix of the popular Pixies song, Where is My Mind. I love how Bassnectar ended up keeping a lot of the original track involved with this one while adding his crazy hype bass driven style. This guy has skill and we can't wait to see him in Burlington again in August.

The Pixies - Where Is My Mind (Bassnectar Remix)

This next song sounds nothing like the original and I feel like that is a good thing. Passion Pit's song, To Kingdom Come does not sound like a banger, in fact I think it is a whiney piece of crap. Luckily for us, Grum did an amazing rework to this song and gave the track new life. There is a lot more going on in Grum's rendition and it definitely seems more complex and upbeat than the original.

OMG Boy Crisis!

Boy Crisis is a sick electronic group from Brooklyn who thrive on great electronic riffs and comical lyrics. Honestly, their music is top notch funky electro but man, their videos are ridiculous. These guys must be on drugs, not to mention their actual band website is some crazy flash that looks like it was just thrown together, but I guess that's their image. Pretty interesting stuff.

Boy Crisis - L'homme

Of course I couldn't do a post without any harder tracks so here is a Nero remix of the Boy Crisis song Dressed to Digress. I just can't stay away from the dirtier side of the industry...

THE TWELVES

The Twelves are a pair of remixer/DJs from Rio de Janeiro, Smanny posted up their remix of 'Boyz' in our Halloween post. They have produced some hella fresh remixes, here is a quick recap of my favorites:

They did a vocal rework and added their own funky flavor, as a result we get one excellent rework.

Fever Ray - Seven (The Twelves Remix)

This track reminds me of Cansei De Ser Sexy in a good way.

Terry Poison - Comme Ci Comme Ca (The Twelves Version II Remix)

This one sounds a little different than the rest. It's a good ol' electronic synth session, upbeat and enjoyable.

Zeigeist - Humanitarianism (The Twelves Remix)

Groovy + Funky = Grunky, a perfect belnd.

Groove Armada - Drop The Tough (The Twelves Remix)

My final selection is a cross between old and new, rock and electronic.

A-Ha - Take On Me (The Twelves Remix)

Sub Focus

Back in April 2009, I came across a pretty epic Essentials Mix on BBC Radio 1. It just so happened to be some dude named Sub Focus. I gave it a listen and thought it was pure gold. He has had me hooked with his crazy mashed up remixes for a while now and he is really starting to blow up. I know I have been posting a lot of dubby tracks and no, that isn’t all I listen to but this guy needs props. Seriously, just a few months ago he was not that popular, but now he is making a comeback with his hybrid drum & bass/ dubstep tracks. It blows my mind how he figured out how to fit the two genres together but Sub Focus definitely has something going on here.

When will he come to America to do a set? Who knows, but lets start out by showing him some love. Check out his site, buy his new album, get hooked.
