Classixx Resurrection

Classixx is one of the most progressive duos that we have come across. Their reworks of popular songs are groundbreaking and they know how to add their own flair without killing the track.

Phoenix has made a huge impact with the blogs and have recently found themselves at the top of the music charts. Classixx took one of their most popular songs, Listomania, gave it a slower bpm, and a more electronic feel while keeping it very low key but upbeat at the same time. A nice track indeed.

Phoenix - Lisztomania (Classixx Remix)

I always thought Shiny Toy Guns were a cool band, especially when I saw them at Killington Mountain. These guys have some serious skill and have made a huge impact on the alternative rock scene. Classixx once again takes a great song, adds their electric vibe, and makes an instant banger.

Shiny Toy Guns - Starts With One (Classixx Remix)

This last song we have for you has once been posted in the Humpstick archives. (Although not too big at the moment) Anyway, we posted a shorter version that went along with a sweet old school skate video. However, we were not the nicest and did not give you a link to the song or an option to download it. (Hence this post) So here you go kids. Below you will find the classic Classixx track Cold Act Ill. We found an extended mix that was double the length of the previously posted video, so enjoy. Check these guys out and buy their shit because they are seriously legit.

no order.

Alright here you go. This post is just about a few songs that I am feeling at the moment. Like the title says, there is no order here, no theme. Enjoy.

First up is a Bassnectar remix of the popular Pixies song, Where is My Mind. I love how Bassnectar ended up keeping a lot of the original track involved with this one while adding his crazy hype bass driven style. This guy has skill and we can't wait to see him in Burlington again in August.

The Pixies - Where Is My Mind (Bassnectar Remix)

This next song sounds nothing like the original and I feel like that is a good thing. Passion Pit's song, To Kingdom Come does not sound like a banger, in fact I think it is a whiney piece of crap. Luckily for us, Grum did an amazing rework to this song and gave the track new life. There is a lot more going on in Grum's rendition and it definitely seems more complex and upbeat than the original.

OMG Boy Crisis!

Boy Crisis is a sick electronic group from Brooklyn who thrive on great electronic riffs and comical lyrics. Honestly, their music is top notch funky electro but man, their videos are ridiculous. These guys must be on drugs, not to mention their actual band website is some crazy flash that looks like it was just thrown together, but I guess that's their image. Pretty interesting stuff.

Boy Crisis - L'homme

Of course I couldn't do a post without any harder tracks so here is a Nero remix of the Boy Crisis song Dressed to Digress. I just can't stay away from the dirtier side of the industry...

THE TWELVES

The Twelves are a pair of remixer/DJs from Rio de Janeiro, Smanny posted up their remix of 'Boyz' in our Halloween post. They have produced some hella fresh remixes, here is a quick recap of my favorites:

They did a vocal rework and added their own funky flavor, as a result we get one excellent rework.

Fever Ray - Seven (The Twelves Remix)

This track reminds me of Cansei De Ser Sexy in a good way.

Terry Poison - Comme Ci Comme Ca (The Twelves Version II Remix)

This one sounds a little different than the rest. It's a good ol' electronic synth session, upbeat and enjoyable.

Zeigeist - Humanitarianism (The Twelves Remix)

Groovy + Funky = Grunky, a perfect belnd.

Groove Armada - Drop The Tough (The Twelves Remix)

My final selection is a cross between old and new, rock and electronic.

A-Ha - Take On Me (The Twelves Remix)

Sub Focus

Back in April 2009, I came across a pretty epic Essentials Mix on BBC Radio 1. It just so happened to be some dude named Sub Focus. I gave it a listen and thought it was pure gold. He has had me hooked with his crazy mashed up remixes for a while now and he is really starting to blow up. I know I have been posting a lot of dubby tracks and no, that isn’t all I listen to but this guy needs props. Seriously, just a few months ago he was not that popular, but now he is making a comeback with his hybrid drum & bass/ dubstep tracks. It blows my mind how he figured out how to fit the two genres together but Sub Focus definitely has something going on here.

When will he come to America to do a set? Who knows, but lets start out by showing him some love. Check out his site, buy his new album, get hooked.

AUSTRALIA DOES IT BEST

Where do you look to find up and coming artists? Australia is clearly the answer, which is why I am hooking you up with four hot Australian made and Australian remixed tracks. Some in the music industry have known about Bertie Blackman since 2006 but just recently she started to get attention from people outside of her home continent.

To kick off the Australia on Australia action, I suggest the Mic Newman remix of Blackman’s track ‘Town Of Sorrow’. This is the track that inspired me to post and it’s defiantly worth a listen.

Bertie Blackman - Town Of Sorrow (Mic Newman Remix)

For another nugget, listen to remix duo Duosseudo's new remix of Thump. Yummm.

Bertie Blackman - Thump (Duosseudo Remix)

Now for a little compare and contrast, here are two different takes on Blackman’s ‘Black Cats’. We have remakes by both remix duo Calling In Sick (CIS) and the young blood, Shazam. It’s hard to say which of these is better; though I think I prefer the mellower CIS version.

Slower.

Alright, so I decided it would be fun to rock a post with some slower bpms. Plastician did a very nice remix of Kosheen's song Guilty. The original is a little bit of a mix between some rock with a few hints of drum and bass. It is actually a pretty interesting genre and it is definitely worth a listen although it is faster paced than Plastician's version. I am definitely loving the Plastician remix of the song with their dubby undertones and slower moving bass line. It is more electronic and definitely more of our style. Check out both of these groups and buy their stuff.

Kosheen - Guilty

Kosheen - Guilty (Plastician Remix)

This next song has been on my top playlist for the past few days. Hot Chip definitely has something special here with their track titled Take It In. The song starts out a little dark and dreary and then there is this great change of mood where the song begins to take on this uplifting persona. Repeat a few times, and you get something out of the ordinary. Listen for yourself.

Shout Out to the Gamers

First up we have an ill track from the Mau5 himself. This song totally brings back memories of playing Zelda as a kid and who would have thought that it would make an appearance in such a legit song? Deadmau5 does have some serious skills and we love his one of a kind material. Not to mention, the dude has to be a gamer himself, hence the Space Invader neck tattoo. That's some tough shit.

Deadmau5 - You Need A Ladder

This wouldn't be a serious gamer tribute post without some sort of Tetris song. Ever heard of Tetris? I guess some people used to play it back in the day when 8 bit shit was cool. Anyway, check it. This song was remixed by Electrixx and is honestly the best rendition of the Tetris Theme Song that I have heard to this day. It is dirty, completely out of the ordinary, but yet it still retains the great Tetris beats we have all come to know and love. Enjoy this song and don't forget to give props to Electrixx for once again, producing another killer track.

Huntin' Season

Its that time of year again. Go shoot some deer. I don't know what Crookers were thinking when they made this video because it does not really go along with the lyrics of the song but I must say, it is pretty ill. The dude in the video seems pretty badass, and the song gives the whole thing a dark and scary feel. Crookers have been coming out with some pretty sweet stuff recently and the Humpstick crew cant wait to get our hands on their next banger.

CFCF + HCHC

In case you didn’t hear, a member of the HCHC was injured during a DJ battle. We have been spending a lot of time with him in the beat lab/hospital, and we haven’t had time for humping the stick. There is some good news though, we will have a new writer joining us next week!

I consider Montreal to be local to me, but for some reason I don’t go into the city often enough. Its always a good time but I am too busy at the moment to visit.

CFCF is a Montreal DJ and he’s worth checking out, with your ears... Here are three of his newer jams that I hand selected.

CFCF – Big Love

Sally Shapiro – Love In July (CFCF Remix)

Midnight Star – Midas Touch (CFCF Remix)
